October 24 - Conference successfully closed
The first International Conference on 3D Body Scanning Technologies was successfully closed on the evening of 20th October 2010.
Over 210 participants from 30 different countries attended the two days conference in Lugano, Switzerland.
The 14 technical sessions, with 60 technical and scientific presentations, were well attended. The topics discussed regarded: medical scanning systems, medical applications, body scanning systems, body scanning for apparel, digital anthropometry, anthropometric surveys, full body, face and foot scanning, scanning technologies and processing of scan data.
The conference was accompanied by an exhibition where 8 manufactures were presenting and demonstrating their body scanning systems. The major four technologies were represented: laser scanning, white-light scanning, active and passive photogrammetry. The application sectors were also various, from apparel, to medicine, entertainment and others.
Three keynote presentations for the three main application sectors were held: apparel and fashion, medical applications, digital anthropometry. Additionally, four major manufacturers had chosen this conference to present world premieres.

The proceedings of the conference (ISBN 978-3-033-02714-5) are available as hard copy (413 pages) and/or cd-rom. The cost of the proceedings is 150CHF.

October 12 - Additional world premiere to be presented

October 11 - Registration closes
We have now closed registrations for 3D Body 2010. We look forward to welcoming over 190 delegates, from 30 different countries, to Lugano next week.
October 7 - Three world premieres to be presented
We are pleased to announce that 3dMD, [TC]² and XYZ RGB will present world premieres at the conference.
3dMD (USA) will present the new 3dMDbody System.
With the ability to capture 4 human subjects per minute and no operator intervention for model assembly and/or data clean up, the next generation of 3D body scanners is now ready for high-throughput environments.
[TC]² (USA) will be introducing its Scan at Home application.
In the near future, this application will enable consumers to create good quality 3D avatars and measurements alone without the use of a 3D body scanner and without issues of taking manual measurements.
XYZ RGB (Canada) will present and demonstrate its new Scanner Killer technology.
With one or two digital SLR camera(s) anyone can now create high resolution, high accuracy, texture rich, UV referenced, 3D quality scan data in just 4 easy-to-follow steps.

May 19 - Opening Session
The first speech at the opening session will be held by Sarah Margerum of the Anthropometry and Biomechanics Facility of NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston (USA).
NASA's Anthropometric and Biomechanics Facility (ABF) has shifted from using traditional linear anthropometry to exploring the capabilities of 3D scanning to provide volumetric anthropometric solutions for design. The key goals are to improve the human-system performance and develop new processes to aid in the design and evaluation of space systems. Four case studies will be presented that illustrate the improvement of human interfaces in space by using 3D body scanning technologies, in particular, regarding spacesuit, helmet and seats.
May 18 - Extended abstract submission deadline June 5th
The number of received abstracts until now (more than 40) is already over the preliminary expectations. The conference promises therefore to be a very successful event with a full program of more than 50 oral presentations covering relevant sectors of 3D body scanning, as general anthropometry, face and body scanning for medicine, body and foot scanning for fashion and apparel, body size measurement campaigns and development of 3D body scanning systems.
Upon various requests from private firms, universities and institutions, we have extended the deadline of abstract submission until June 5th.

Jean-Marc Surville is selected as keynote speaker for the anthropometry session.
Jean-Marc Surville is an industrial engineer at LECTRA (France). He has participated at various national and international projects on 3D body scanning. He has a large practical experience in the treatment and processing of 3D scan data for the extraction of anthropometric information.
His keynote speech at the conference will regard the processing of 3D body scan data in different postures and the treatment of 3D scan data for the classification of the body shape into H.O.A.X.Y classes.
